The agreement between you and Chabad JD, in plain words.

1.Who we are

Chabad JD is a free, independent professional network for Jewish law students, alumni and attorneys. The website is run and governed by Jonathan Ustaev. "We" and "us" mean Chabad JD: him and the volunteer organizers who help him.

These terms cover chabadjd.com, our events and our emails. By joining, reserving a seat, signing up for the Weekly Brief or otherwise using the site, you agree to them and to the Code of Conduct.

Chabad JD is an independent professional network. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Chabad-Lubavitch, Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch, Chabad on Campus International or any law school.

2.Who can join

Law students, law school graduates and attorneys who are at least 18. You join as yourself, with your real name, a recent photo of you if you add one, and accurate details about your school or work. One account per person.

An organizer reviews every new account before it can open the Network. We may decline or remove any account, including when something doesn't add up or the Code of Conduct isn't followed.

3.Your account

There are no passwords. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email, so keep that inbox secure. If you think someone else has signed in as you, use “Sign out on every device” in your account and tell us.

You can change what you share, or delete your account, at any time. The Privacy page explains what we keep, for how long, and what deleting removes.

4.What you post

Your profile, photos, messages and job listings are yours. By posting them, you give us permission to store, crop and display them, and to send them where they belong: your profile to approved members as you've chosen, a message to its recipient, and a job listing on the public Job Board, in the Weekly Brief and in Job Board alerts. We don't use them for anything else. The permission ends when you delete them or your account, except that a job listing already live stays up until it closes.

You're responsible for what you post, and you may post only what you have the right to post, including any photo. We may edit or remove anything that breaks these terms or the Code of Conduct.

5.Job listings

Job listings are posted by members. Posting and applying are free. We aren't an employment agency or recruiter, we don't verify listings or vouch for any employer, and we can't promise anyone an interview or a job. Check any position yourself before you apply.

If you post a listing, you're responsible for it. It must be a real, open position you're allowed to share, and it must follow the law, including anti-discrimination law (no preference based on religion, race, sex, age, disability or any other protected trait) and New York's pay-transparency rules, which require a good-faith pay range for most New York jobs.

A note on Shabbat and Yom Tov describes how an employer accommodates observance, first-hand. It must never suggest who should or shouldn't apply.

Approved members apply through the site. An application (your name, school or firm, note, résumé and any cover letter) goes only to the member who posted the listing. If you apply, what you send must be truthful and your own.

If you receive applications, use them only to consider applicants for that position. Don't share them beyond the people making the decision, don't add applicants to mailing lists, and never screen anyone by religion or any other protected trait. Keep copies, including the ones attached to our emails, only as long as you need them for the decision. We may close your listings or end your membership if you misuse applications.

6.Using the Network

The Network is for one-to-one professional connection. Everyone who uses it agrees to the Code of Conduct. In short: no lists, no mass email, no scraping, no harassment.

Don't try to get around our limits, test or probe the site's security without our written permission, use automated tools to read or copy the site, or sign up as someone else.

7.Not legal advice

Conversations with members, mentors and speakers are between people, not advice from Chabad JD. Nothing on the site or at our events is legal advice, and no attorney–client relationship is formed through Chabad JD. If you need a lawyer, hire one.

8.Events

All food at our events is kosher, and each event lists its supervision. Kosher doesn't mean allergen-free, so tell us about allergies in your RSVP note and check before you eat. If wine or other alcohol is served, it's only for guests 21 and older.

Some events are held in members' homes; their addresses go only to confirmed guests and must not be shared. Plans can change: we may move, change or cancel an event, and we'll let confirmed guests know by email. A host or organizer may ask anyone to leave, and we may decline an RSVP.

You come to events at your own risk and are responsible for getting there and back and for your belongings. We may take photos at weekday events (never on Shabbat or Yom Tov) and use them on the site and our social media. If you'd rather not appear, tell an organizer or write to us, and we'll leave you out or take the photo down.

Please cancel if you can't come, so the seat goes to someone on the waitlist. Behave as a guest in someone's home, because sometimes you are one.

9.The fine print

We run the site with care, but it's provided as it is, without promises that it will always be available, accurate or error-free. Members, hosts, speakers and employers act for themselves, not for us, and we aren't responsible for what they say or do, though we'll act on reports under the Code of Conduct.

To the extent the law allows, Chabad JD and its organizers aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim about the site or our events is limited to $100. Nothing here limits liability the law doesn't allow us to limit, such as for gross negligence or intentional harm. If something you post or do leads to a claim against us, you'll cover our reasonable costs.

If you have a problem with us, write to us first and give us 30 days to try to fix it. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, and any dispute goes to the state or federal courts in New York County, though either of us may use small claims court.

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll email members before it takes effect, and using the site after that means you accept it. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
